The SpayVac™ Vaccine
In controlling wildlife populations, a single-dose vaccination method is the only viable choice for contraception.
SpayVac™ is the first product derived from the VacciMax™ platform technology. SpayVac™ is a fertility control vaccine that can be injected into a female animal to produce an immune response that provides contraception for multi-year periods from a single injection.
SpayVac™’s antigens elicit antibodies that adhere to the surface of the eggs of the treated female. This prevents the sperm from binding, thus blocking fertilization. A single-dose of SpayVac™ will provide contraception for multi-year periods. IVT's research supports long-lasting effectiveness for as long as ten years in some species. The duration of this effectiveness is due to the novel VacciMax™ liposomal formulation that is used in the SpayVac™ vaccine.
Due to the complexities and genetic variations of the various mammalian species, there can be no one product that will prove effective in all mammals. The SpayVac™ vaccine is being custom designed for each mammalian species chosen, to achieve the optimum dosage as well as the optimum antigen source. While various other vaccines use zona pellucida protein and an adjuvant, the critical difference with SpayVac™ is the utilization of the VacciMax™ liposomal formulation that encapsulates the zona pellucida proteins being carried to the immune system. SpayVac™ can achieve multi-year contraception, whereas other vaccines require follow-up boosters and most often annual boosters.
In controlling wildlife populations, a single-dose vaccination method is the only viable choice for mammalian contraception. Multi-dose vaccines are very expensive and impractical to administer because of the need to recapture the same animals repeatedly. SpayVac™’s single-dose capability also minimizes stress and potential for injury to treated animals. Surgical fertility control would not usually be practical for wildlife for obvious reasons.
