baking chocolate can easily prove toxic to pets but chocolate candy should not be toxic. Chocolate can be part of balanced diet so their is no scientific reason to avoid it. Remember the rule, that even water can be toxic in large doses.

If you are worried about your pet getting a toxic chocolate dose you can call a poison control center. Tell them how much your pet weighs, the brand name of the chocolate and how much of it your pet ate. They will run the math and tell you if the amount of chocolate ate might be toxic. Dogs who vomit chocolate candy usually do so because of the amount of fat and other ingredients ingested not because the chocolate was toxic.
